Our adventure begins with a drive to Dolores Hidalgo, a city known primarily for its ceramics industry which supports over half of the town's population. We toured several well known ceramics studios and took a tour of a factory and watched first hand how the ceramics were created. The labor intensive individual painting of each piece was amazing to watch.
Production starts in here...
After their first glaze, they get painted...
After painting, they go into the oven for baking. Note the wheels on the shelf so the whole unit rolls in.
Watch this movie of the finished ceramics set to one of Joss' tunes...www.josstunes.com
Look at this beautiful wall made of tiles and plates...
Tiles anyone?
Silly boys...
And who wouldn't want this toilet and matching bathroom?
This little town of about 55,000 people is also known for its unusual flavors of hand made ice cream sold in their main square. We did a good job of sampling some of the more crazy flavors like chiccarone (pork rind), tequila, cerveza (beer), riz (rice), queso (cheese), tamarindo with chile, rose petals, hibiscus, mint, avocado, pine nut and of course, chocolate. It was great fun!
