Tracey and Mark live in a gorgeous penthouse apartment
in a building that his firm developed at the end of Rundle St., the
main street of Adelaide. Their views were fabulous.
Here are two of their huge modern art pieces...
A view of their beautiful kitchen...
A photo of the four of us...
And a delicious home cooked dinner...
One of the memorable highlights of our trip to Adelaide
came from a Sunday evening stop at a pub in the Adelaide Hills, about
20 minutes our of town. We had the serendipitous good fortune to
be there on the monthly folk song night. A large separate room in
the pub was filled with people, many of whom (over a dozen) had
guitars, mandolins, recorders, squeezeboxes, and other musical
instruments. The order of performance was entirely unscripted,
and the randomness was delicious in itself. One man would play
his guitar and sing an old ballad, then a woman would stand and recite
a poem. Another man then played a song that many people knew and
almost everyone chimed in. We stayed for over an hour of this and
absolutely loved it.
Here are a couple movies to give you a bit
of the feel of this...
Dinner that evening was at "Amarin", an exquisite Thai restaurant. Look at these two gorgeous dishes...
The next morning went on an absolutely fantastic hike...
Tracey
and Mark held the previous record of 22 koala sightings during one
hike. We smashed that record by seeing 27 koalas on our morning
hike. They were everywhere high up in the eucalpytus trees.
But there were a couple of them that were low enough for us to get some
super close up photos...
That special day we saw 27 koalas, 2 kangaroos, 1 kookaburra, 1 rabbit and 9 humans.
And
the perfect ending to this wonderful visit was our tour of the Haigh's
Chocolate Factory, our favorite Australian chocolate. You know
how we love those factory tours!
