Here are four of our favorite Melbourne discoveries...
This is a fabulous sculpture - quite huge on
the edge of the Yarra River. It is symbolic of the Aboriginal roots of
this country. Melbourne is located in the Kulin Nation which is
comprised of the Boonerwrung, Woiworung, Taungurong, Djajawurrung and
the Wathaurung people. Make sure to read these names out loud.
See what we mean by huge. Look at tiny epod standing next to it....
Here are some details of this fabulous creation which is made of painted small tiles....
Across
another bridge is this next wonderful installation. Each of the
sculptures represent an aboriginal dream interpretation. What doesn't
show up on the photo is the magnificent panel of engraved sections of
glass in front of these creations showing all the different countries
that are represented here in Australia and the number of immigrants
that are living here along with details about their heritages. It was
quite fascinating.
Another of our favorite sculpture pieces was this group of sheep and rams. We really loved this flock.

And also his two brothers...
We
were delighted to come upon these bells on one of our long walks - we
found them precisely at one of the three times they were played each
day - our good fortune...
It's curious because they sound like bells but it takes your mind a little bit to see that they're mounted upside down.
This
was one of several different "tunes" played by the computerized
programing of the bells. We stayed and listened to a few of them,
each about 4-5 minutes long. They also knew to leave a delicious
few moments of silence at the end of each piece, when you could hear
the lingering sounds of the bells drift off into infinity....

Whatthefuckerungulung? Love the sheep sculpture! I want that in my town instead of the other "public" (read: blecch) art. But I have one question: How come the music doesn't fall back INTO the bells? I mean gravity isn't just a good idea, it's the LAW! Reply to this
