Here are our food highlights from Brisbane.
We had two very remarkable and memorable dinners here at
restaurants along the river. The first was called "The Jade Buddha".
We sat on their patio, sampled 2 kinds of delicious sparkling local
Australian wines and had a beautiful meal.
Two delicious kinds of Australian "bubbly", with the bridge lit up in the background, are the recipe for a romantic evening. The bubbly on the left was Australian Bay of Fires Pinot Noir Charnonnay. The one on the right was the Australian Bilyar Sparkling with Wild Hibiscus.
A delicious taster plate of appetizers (called entrees).
Our main dish was grilled Halloumi sheep cheese over scalloped potatoes. Yum yum.
Our
other favorite restaurant was called "Pier Nine". It served local
seafood, was famous for its oysters, served 6 different ways and had
more of our favorite Moreton Bugs, which come from the nearby Moreton
Bay.
Here's the "amuse bouche" which was a delicious crab bisque served in demi tasse cups.
There were oysters from 5 different parts of Australia. They said the best ones came from Tasmania.
This was their sashimi/sushi plate...
Fresh sardines...
Moreton Bay Bugs (crawfish) with Asian coleslaw.
Blackened fish over curried chickpea & raisin salad...
Mindy's
favorite drink here is Bundaberg Ginger Beer. It's their version of
ginger ale, only much stronger and very bubbly. Here's our favorite
bus ad for it.
From Brisbane we're off to explore Byron Bay and the hinterlands.
