Celebrating Australia Day in Sydney January 26th, 2007

Lucky for us that just 4 days after arriving here in Sydney, all
of Australia celebrated "Australia Day" on the 26th of January. It
seemed like most of Sydney turned out to celebrate this festive day.
Many of the streets were blocked to traffic and there were masses of
people listening to live music set up in all different areas of town. It felt like Woodstock once again.
One of our most favorite attractions was the collection of vintage cars
that they were showing. These beauties lined both sides of the
streets and were fabulous to look at. It just felt so strange to
be looking at these Mustangs, Chevys, and even Model T's, all with
steering wheels on the other side.
Monks and classic cars are the perfect combination...
See what we mean about the steering wheel????...
Loved this look at the back of the cars...
And the long row of Mini Coopers...
This was a real black beauty....
There was even an exhibition of "Midget Racing Cars"...
Including the famous "Falcon Racer"...
The favorite leisure activity of lots of Aussies is hanging out at the
Pub and drinking a pint or more of their beloved beer. And on
Australia Day, it seemed as though there was more drinking than usual.
A large part of the fun was the amount of "Busking" that was going on. See the next blog entry for details.
